Missing Juvenile Found Safe In Maine

On 08/23/2015 in the early morning hours, Middleton Police received information that a 16 year old female may be missing from a Silver Street residence.   At the time of the call, police had information to believe that the juvenile was a runaway.

Middleton Police worked with the School Resource Officer at the Governor Wentworth High School and confirmed that the child had not arrived for school.  The child was entered into the national database, NCIC, as a missing juvenile.  Additionally, we turned to our Social Media Partners in search of information.

As the investigation continued, Middleton Police received credible information that the child left the State of New Hampshire and was in the State of Maine.  Once this information was confirmed, we requested assistance from the United States FBI in Boston as well as the Scarborough Maine Police and the York County Sheriff's Office.

As a result of the cooperative investigative efforts, the child was located in Acton, Maine at approximately midnight.  She was accompanied by a 21 year old adult male.

The child was taken into custody by the Maine Authorities and has since returned to New Hampshire.

The circumstances leading to the juvenile's ability to leave this state is currently being investigated to determine what if any charges are being sought.

In New Hampshire it is a Class B felony to entice a child across state lines for the purposes of concealing them from a parent or legal guardian.

Upon completion, this matter will be forwarded to the Office of the Strafford County Attorney for a charging decision.

Middleton Police would like to express our heartfelt thanks for all our partner law enforcement partners efforts which allowed us to return a missing juvenile within 24 hours of a report.
