We need your help!

The weather reports are predicting that the rain will leave today and we are headed for sunshine over this holiday weekend.  This is great news as nothing matches great weather and relaxation.

I am writing this blog as a personal appeal to our community and beyond to help make this holiday weekend a safe and happy one.  Over my 24 years of my law enforcement career, I have responded to my fair share of serious personal injury and fatal collisions.  We don't call them accidents anymore as each can be prevented.

What I am asking folks to consider is planning your holiday weekend.  No person plans to go out and get involved in a collision whether you are the cause of the crash or an innocent bystander.

If alcohol is going to be involved in your weekend, please consider a safety plan.  Consider before you go out how you plan on getting home.  Don't let the effects of alcohol dull your good sense of choice.  By planning ahead, you can prevent yourself from getting arrested, hurting yourself or someone else.

Our Department as well as police agencies across Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts will be out in full force enforcing reckless driving, dui and distracted driving.  If you chose to do it, there is a strong chance you will get caught.  We are asking you to think during your sober time if you really want to go down that road.

During the carnage of these events, we experience first hand the waste.  A person scarred for life or the wasteful loss of a life.  The tragedy effects the victim, their family and the at fault driver who used poor decision making.  Please do not make poor decisions.

Over this beautiful weekend, we ask that you enjoy and have a great time.  We ask that you help us by not drinking and driving, observe the speed limit, do not text and drive or operate your cellphone.  If you have to make a call or text consider pulling over.  Also please consider wearing your seatbelt.

With your cooperation, we can save lives.  Have a great Holiday Weekend!  Please share this with your friends and family.  We don't want our patrols to be a secret.  We want people to have a great weekend and be safe.
