Today is expected to be the worst of any day during the current heat wave. Expect Temperatures in the 100 degree Range.
During this time period it is extremely important to stay hydrated to avoid serious illness. It is recommended that people working outside in these temperatures consume a minimum of 4 eight ounce cups of water per hours. If you experience thirst, you have already started the dehydration process.
If you like sports drinks like Gatorade to stay hydrated, it is recommended that you consume two equal size containers of water to each sport drink for the electrolytes to be replaced. Sport drinks alone will not keep you hydrated.
Avoid caffeine products as well as carbonated drinks.
Heat can rise very quickly in a vehicle. If you are going to travel, please keep plenty of water with you in the event of a breakdown.
DO NOT leave children and pets unattended in vehicles. The interior of a car will rise quickly in this heat even with windows open. This can cause serious injury or death in a very short period of time.
Children, the elderly, over-weight and ill persons are at risk during these high temperatures. Please check on your neighbors and let us know if they need anything.
Temperatures are expected to drop to more comfortable temperatures Saturday. During that time period we expect a series of Thunder Storms. We are watching that and will post emergency weather alerts here.
